The Rink is set against the backdrop of three contemporary anxieties: life as a working class person, the reality of starting a new family, the enhanced potential for nuclear war. The author merges these three ideas into a palimpsestical poetry layered over the top of found pieces of paper: his dissertation cover sheet, old drafts of other poems, snippets from a Pat Arrowsmith poetry book, a sketch of a crab, and other things that he drew with his eyes closed.
