The Book

Jewess in a Forest and Other Poems aims to capture the process of creating a language for feelings we have no words for. A culmination of Rachel’s response to her journey with categorical mental illness, and the re-enacted generational behavior related to her Jewish family, 'Jewess' is an unfolding. Using what many have called the Jewish Mother Tongue, Rachel harnesses Yiddish to denote the purely emotive, sonic elements which English cannot. Jewess in a Forest and Other Poems is a peek into one American Jewess’s process of creating a poetic space for the songs, prayers and self-enlightenment she finds while deep in her own unconscious forest.
